Sheila Meyer (1958–2010) NEWTON, MA - Sheila (Hagan) Meyer (51) of Newton, MA passed peacefully surrounded by her family on January 28, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Douglas Meyer and loving mother of Stephanie, Cameron and the late Christian Meyer. The cherished daughter of Charles D. (Bud) and Kathleen (O'Rourke) Hagan of Westfield, MA. She leaves behind her brother James Hagan, his wife Kristin and her niece and nephew Mairead and James of Westfield, MA. Her twin sister, Nancy Hagan of Apex, NC and her children Declan, Claire, Ciara and Ashlyn. Also the devoted aunt to Eric, Kyle, Sarah and Daniel of Chicago, IL. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Ignatius Church in Chestnut Hill, MA on Monday, February 1. Sheila was a graduate of Westfield High School (1976) where she excelled in tennis and skiing and pursued her interest in music. She graduated from Connecticut College where she earned a BA in English in 1980. Sheila went on to accomplish a highly successful career in publishing at Pearson Custom Publishing -formerly Simon and Schuster, where she worked her way up to a senior executive position, in charge of Book Development, Production, and Manufacturing. As an accomplished pianist, Sheila had a passion for music as well as literature and the arts. She continued to play tennis, ski and became an avid swimmer who loved athletic competition. In an effort to give comfort to those in need of care, Sheila was a volunteer at Children's Hospital in Boston in the oncology unit. Sheila's love of literature led her to become an active volunteer at the Bowen Elementary School library where she also helped edit and publish a popular children's story book. To honor her love of life and her belief in the importance of an education a scholarship fund in memory of Sheila Hagan Meyer will be established at St. Mary's Elementary School in Westfield, MA.
